when it comes to the evening sweet tooth... i suffer from that too. in order to stop myself from baking treats, i try to buy 0% pudding for desserts, to have an apple & cheese for dessert, and I am also trying to eat more/better throughout the day. I notice that the cravings are worse when I am all screwed up for lunch/afternoon snack. Maybe there is something iin that that is useful for you?
Yay for you for still hitting the gym and everything. You'll do it! |

Anne-Marie, yes I too find that my sweet tooth goes mad if I haven't eaten regular during the day, but also when I am tired..... I do try to eat sweet fruit & a handful of nuts when I feel like that, but sometimes the only thing that will do is chocolate!!! But you know what, as long as it isn't everyday and every meal I am happy to indulge a little!!
Yay - what a great day.... I never wanna work again, ever, ever, ever....!!!!! LOL
So I was up at the usual time, and got some chores done as I knew I had a guy coming round to check the hot water boiler out coz it wasn't working well, so got that done and headed to the gym for my lower body workout......
Stepper to warm up for 5mins
Leg Press @ 80kg 3 x 6, then 70kgs 3 x 12
Leg Curl @ 35kg 3 x 6, then 30kg 3 x 12
Leg Ext @ 35kg 3 x 6, then 30kg 3 x 12
Plie Squat with 14kg Db 3 x 6, then no Db 3 x 12
Narrow stance squat with 8 kg Dbs 3 x 6, then no Db's 3 x 12
I got home and helped DH get sorted for work and we left the house together... him to work, me to drop my car with the mechanics for a service. I had to walk home (around 15 to 20 mins.) I pretty much marched home thanks to the Ipod!! So I got home and got on with some chores. At 1pm the car was ready so I walked back down with my gym kit and after picking the car up I headed to the gym...
Treadmill 20 mins = 235 calories
Matrix Mc ... hmm gave in, it was too hard, but I am going to work on that coz it's a good mc... it's an ascent trainer ...http://www.matrix-fitness.com/products/ascent/A5x.asp apparently it's meant to mimic climbing stadium stairs....interesting
Anyway I managed nearly 4 mins = 35 cal
Elliptical 10 mins = 150cals
So that caught up on my missed session yesterday , then I went for a swim:
Breast stroke for 31 lengths which is 1/2 a mile = 266 cals
I then headed to the hydrotherapy pool to bubble away any aches and pains...
I feel great, there is something about being in a pool that gives you an amazing sense of wellbeing... I want to do this everyday, everyday!!! It has pulled me back into gear for the rest of the week I have a great sense of focus again!!!
Food has been good also, but I will log that when the day is over!! Reckon I am going to head for a long soak in the bath now!! _________________

I like to drink peppermint green tea sweetened with splenda when I am craving sweets......it really works well for me, and you get the added benefits of mint and green tea too!
Maybe it's psychological too, lol!! Years ago, I used to be smoker....and when I decided to quit I did so cold turkey...chewing sugarless gums and to combat nightime cravings (which were the worse ones for me) I drank peppermint tea......worked like a charm every time......I now apply the same thing to any craving be sweet or salty. _________________ Insanity = Doing the same stoopid thing over and over again and expecting different results. |

LizzyB - funnily enough I have green tea with mint in the cupboard, but I have never thought about sweetening it....hmm will give that a go next time!!
Anne-Marie - it was a fab day, I'm trying to talk my hubby round to letting me pack in work forever LOL, he says fine, but no more holidays to anywhere exciting....boo I want my holidays!!
Ok so I want to log my food for yesterday:
1, CC, Oatcakes, Almonds
2, Oatmeal, Milk, Blueberries, PP
3, WM Tortilla, Chicken, Veg, Hummus, handful of crisps
4,Banana & Cashew nuts before gym
5, Wm tortilla, chicken, veg, hummus, handful of crisps
6, Chicken Salad with cous cous & handful of crisps
Extras: Coffee x 3, Tea x 1
Total Calories in = 1584
Total Calories out = 716 + 1542 (AMR)
Deficit = 974
Deficit (week so far) = 1895
So today is Bonfire Night, doubt anywhere else celebrates this as it is about the Houses of Parliament almost being blown up by Guy Fawkes years ago.....DH wants to go to a Bonfire and I am trying to work out my best options for today...
There will be no gym tonight, so that means that I need to get my workout in this morning and at lunchtime. I would usually plan to do Cardio in the morning and then the weights at lunch, but I think since I only did cardio at 2pm yesterday that I may need to hang back a bit longer and do weights this morning and cardio at lunch, thing is I'll be really sweaty for heading back to work - I can shower and stuff, but it'll be such a rush...
Then tonight we'll head to the other side of town to an organised bonfire, we'll park the car miles away and have to walk to the fire, then we'll go passed loads of fast food caravans before finding a spot to wait for the fireworks to begin - 1/2 an hour later it'll all be over and we'll be heading back to the car!! Mind you I do love the roasted horse chestnuts so I must get some cash out to take with us!! _________________

I would say if you can drink the tea without sweetener then try it because multiple studies show that artificial sugars actually deaden our palate to true sweetness because they are so sweet and when u actually eat something with natural sugar in it you don't find it sweet enough(case in point those people who put sweetner on fruit-other than grapefruit that is) and those sweetners can cause your body to crave more food later leading to binges.
I don't sweeten my tea and I find it still can help with cravings particulalrly if you get teas with real fruit bits in them that impart a sweet flavor. I don't know what brands u have over there but Lipton makes some teas with real drid fruit in the infuser and they are quite good unsweetened.
Or have a little bit of sugar. 1 t of sugar only has 15 calories which will add plenty of sweetness to your tea and it's not some chmically created compound that's doing who knows what to your body _________________ what looks like failure is success

Hey bb - In your shoes I would be sure to pack a snack!!! lol!!!
If there is any speed at all to your walk that could be cardio, but the last time I was at fireworks it was so crowded that it took literally 30 minutes to walk what would normally take about 10. Freaked me out actually so I haven't gone again! |

Really?! I've personally never had that experience.......I find things that are sweetened with sugar (candy, pop, whatever...) to taste waaaay more sweet than versions sweetened with Splenda or stevia leaf.
To each her own, I guess.....like everything else in life, some are more sensitive/reactive than others....try both ways for yourself and see which fits best for you bb! _________________ Insanity = Doing the same stoopid thing over and over again and expecting different results. |

Hey GG and LizzyB - currently I have no choice, I only have sugar in the cupboard so I will use that or honey! The Lipton Fruit Tea sounds good though and I will look into those because I do still need a sugar in a standard cup of tea!!
So yesterday was another good day....

Total Calories in = 1433
Total Calories out = 716 + 1542 (AMR)
Deficit = 825
Deficit (week so far) = 2720
So I actually made it to the gym at lunchtime - yay!! Then the evening bonfire was great, a huge fire, fantastic fireworks and cuddling with DH in the crowd!! We didn't snack, even though there was fast food caravans all around the park, people were eating burgers and hot dogs and stuff... I wasn't interested, whether this was because we ate before going out or just because I know it is junk I don't know....
So on the one hand I am pleased with myself this week, so far in four days I have burned 2720 cals so that's 680 a day, I have hit every gym session - cardio & weights! In my mind I feel like I have turned a corner, I am more positive, the doubt over whether I can do this has gone.....I have proved to myself that with some forward planning I can work around 'life happening' mind you I didn't plan quite well enough otherwise I would be at the gym right now, not typing this post! I feel burned out today though and am going to have a rest today, because the weekend will be a busy one, but my focus this weekend is to maintain or increase this weight loss and not to follow the usual pattern of eating junk and then having to start a fresh back at 159ish on Monday!!
I feel a bit of a fraud sometimes, because people are quite often commenting on my weight loss, but I know that right now I am just yo-yoing. I also have this Biggest Loser competition going on at work and on paper I don't really have any competition and I should wipe the floor with everyone and take the money, but if I don't keep my 'head in the game' then it isn't going to happen..!!
Here's a couple of pics from last night:
Here's the fire:
DH and me all wrapped up warm!!

Thanks Helen - it was very cold, but the huge fire was keeping us warm!!
So firstly I need to confess to a terrible day yesterday.....
I didn't head to the gym and I didn't eat well at all!!!!
I realised on waking that I hadn't placed my food shopping order, which has to be done by 6pm on a Friday for my delivery on Saturday morning, so I had planned for Bonfire Night, but not really well enough!! So I realised that like it or lump it I was going to have to miss the gym. I still started the day with my cottage cheese though.....
But then I avoided eating, it is the weigh in day for our Biggest Loser competition and I always try not to eat again until I have weighed in at 8.30, but the thing is I am starving by the time I have weighed in and then the Bacon Butty's start coming out from the kitchen and I end up not being able to resist!! Then I missed my lunch because I was still full from the Butty and then I snacked all afternoon on Chocolate biscuits and brioche, then I was starving by the time I got home and then we ended up ordering Dominos Pizza and drinking wine..!! There have got to be some lessons to learn from yesterday!!!!
So it is now a new week for me....I know strange to start on a saturday, but it works for me...
I want to create a specific plan based on what I know is going on this week. I need to allow for the things that 'went wrong' last week also (ie the weekend and then Friday!!)
SAT - We would usually play golf and I would burn around 900 calories, but DH has to work today so this isn't going to happen. So I am going to head to Spinning at 10am and clean up my food more.
So the aim calorie-wise is:
In - 1500
Out - 600 + 1540 (AMR)
Deficit = 640
SUN - It will be early morning golf as usual, but because we are out in the cold this generates a need for comfort food and general laziness when we get home. I need to be careful with the food as this is another day where I can fall into the habit of eating junk!
So the aim calorie-wise is:
In - 1500
Out - 895 + 1540 (AMR)
Deficit = 935
MON - We have the day off work, so this won't be the usual routine, but I plan to get up around the same time as usual and head to the gym for my Back/Biceps workout. Then instead of cardio after work we will play golf again as the weather is meant to stay dry.
So the aim calorie-wise is:
In - 1500
Out - 300 + 895 + 1540 (AMR)
Deficit = 1235
TUE - Back at work and in the usual routine - Am Workout Chest/Shoulders/Triceps and then Cardio after work
So the aim calorie-wise is:
In - 1300
Out - 300 + 500 + 1540 (AMR)
Deficit = 1040
WED - Am workout - Lower Body (need to rethink this workout..), PM - Swim (hopefully this will have the same affect as the swim I had this last week and make me feel great and focus for the rest of the week)
So the aim calorie-wise is:
In - 1300
Out - 300 + 300 + 1540 (AMR)
Deficit = 840
THU - Am workout Back/ Biceps, PM - Spinning
So the aim calorie-wise is:
In - 1300
Out - 300 + 600 + 1540 (AMR)
Deficit = 1140
FRI - Make sure I go to the gym (Cardio) and start the day off right, Make sure I eat my oatmeal before I go to work!!! At lunchtime head to the gym for Chest/Shoulders/Tricep workout.
So the aim calorie-wise is:
In - 1300
Out - 330 + 300 + 1540 (AMR)
Deficit = 870
So the deficit for the week is 5560 which equates to about 1.5 lbs, I know it doesn't specifically work out like that so I am expecting to lose more like 2lb so I my target weight for next Friday is 153lbs!!!
Right so now I have more focus again I'm off to get ready for Spinning!! _________________

Hey bb - I always 'save' your journal to read last!! Sorry yesterday wasn't so good... but hey, make improvements one choice at a time.
Can you prep your snacks or something so that when you come home or as needed you have something healthy right in front of you? I don't know if you make food choices you later don't like for the same reason I do... it's easy! I try to make it easy-er to make the choices I want to when I am in a healthy state of mind... as the choices I make when hungry, tired, upset, etc SUCK!
I think you are doing great. You have been hard on yourself in the past, but it seems to me that you are really starting to look at the *whys* behind what happened that you don't like and not blaming yourself so much, you know? If you notice you have a 'weak point', that's actually great news!! You can give it some thought, consult with others, read up on it, and see what leads up to the weak point... and then see what you can 'tweak'.
My weak point is weekends/staying up late/being too busy during the day (Saturdays). So I think trying to be more organized with planning is helping, also talking more with my husband to make a plan together over what we want to accomplish during the weekend. J and I also have to work on being organized for dinner those nights I go to the gym, but I think that will take a few weeks!!
I am curious about your competing goals... Ever since you mentioned it I've had it in the back of my own mind... and now I'd like to know more! |

Hey Anne-Marie,
Thanks for popping by!!
I do normally prep my food and snacks, but somehow on a friday I always have this mindset of 'It's Friday!!!' This attitude to the day means that I don't plan ahead I don't prepare, I fly by the seat of my pants and it is the attitude that makes me resort to bad choices...'you can't get fat on a Friday!!'
I am making a conscious effort not to be too hard on myself as I have realised by reading my old journals that it leads me into a downward spiral and I completely fall off the wagon. To lose this weight I don't have to be perfect... I just have to be consistent!
I certainly haven't forgotten about my competing goals and I keep researching it, but I am less sure about whether it is going to be this year.... I am definitly going to watch the competition that is happening close by to check out the atmosphere, and in general whats happening so that I can get a feel for it all. There is still the option of competing during the summer - I think I am going to see how I feel after my holiday and after checking out the Easter competion and decide..... I am not totally focused on it because I know the first stage has to be getting this excess weight off and once that's done I need to start building more muscle, toning etc... I feel it is the ultimate way to prove to myself that I have finally achieved the goals I have thought about for years and to prove that I can finish something!!
I don't want to be a runner, I don't want to just exercise, I want a final achievement for all the hard work I am going to put in and have decided that this suits my overall goals.....maybe you should research it too, it's a awesome long term goal to have..?? _________________
