And I also realized this: when I am not dieting, I dont' go crazy and binge on chocolate or chips or cake because I DON'T FEEL DEPRIVED!

I dont' want to be on a diet the rest of my life. I have come to realize that how I eat now will shape how I am able to eat for the rest of my life. If I continue on the path of restrictive low calorie diets then I will be doomed to that for the rest of my life.

I also don't want to feel trapped into needing massive amounts of exercise in order to maintain my weight. I want exercise to be for my health, my sanity and frankly for my enjoyment. If I miss a workout, it shouldn't be the end of the world.

So, what does all this mean? Well, as of Sunday I have stopped counting calories. I even deleted my calorie counting trackers on my iphone. That was scary. I have asked my hubby to take my scale away from me and put it in his car so I dont' have access to it. I am letting my hunger guide me, but I am still making good choices in terms of what to eat. I have started eating vegetarian and so far it has not been at all difficult because I have typically eat dishes were all the veggies, carbs, meat, ect are mixed together anyways, so the lack of meat has not yet been noticeable. I'm also allowing myself treats. Sunday night I had a cookie with frozen yogurt on it at Sweet Tomatoes and yesterday I had 2 sesame crackers with pb and a little nutella on them.

i did miss a lot, i was not on the boards for about a week...
i can SO MUCH RELATE TO YOU!!! i also got really obsessed about what i weight, about what i eat, how much i work out etc...it was not FUN anymore! and that scared me too! i wasn't fitter or better looking than before, and also not than some friends who don't care that much...
so i too stopped tracking calories and stepping on the scale so often! it does feel really good after a while, i feel more free, and enjoy life more!! i don't eat "crap" all the time, i make good decisions, but i feel free to eat chocolate if i like to, or eat something i crave.
keep us updated about how you feel about your decision, i'm sure it was the right one!!

I don't know if it's the vegetarian diet, the daily green smoothies, the lack of calorie counting or maybe a combo of all three but man my energy levels are through the roof. My runs have been great! I had an Easy 8 miler on Sunday-easy!!! Two weeks ago when I was eating so much protein 3 miles was a nightmare.

This morning i woke up refreshed at 0530! Wow!

So far I love being a veggie. It forces me to be much more creative with meals and I'm experimenting with all sorts of flavor and texture combinations. Plus I've been making a lot of stuff on my own-tortillas, almond butter, hummus, larabars, this amazing pumpkin bread.

I defintely think high carb eating is where it's at for me!

Hey GG,

Well done you....you've stepped back and had a look at everything you do and think. Making these changes sounds like it's just what you need.
I expect it will be hard work at the end of the day you are changing habits that you have forced to ingrain on yourself for years....
Good luck in the race ... enjoy your journey!
x

I have to share with you guys this really cool story-today I'm leaving for my externship in salisbury north carolina so yesterday was hubby and my last day together. We went to go see the panthers play(ironically) the Carolina hurricanes. We always buy the cheapest tickets available(which used to be $20 and now they're $10-can u beleive u can go to a professional sporting event for less $ than a movie!!!).

Anyhow as we were walking to the box office a nice man stopped us and said he was a season ticket holder and had been given extra seats and he'd sell us lower bowl seats for a total of $5! We were a little worried that it might be fake(cause those seats cost well over $100 each) but he said he'd go in with us so when they scanned our ticket we'd see they were legit which they were.

Omg the seats were awesome!!! Literally 14 rows from the ice! And we were in the canes zone so for 2/3 periods the panthers were scoring right in front of us! The only downside is that it's significantly colder by the ice than in th nosebleeds so we ended up having to buy sweatshirts from the pro shop...lol...which weren't cheap but we'll be able to use them again.

I'm still in awe of our amazing seats..what a nice guy that was!

Wow...what a weekend! I'm in north Carolina now but man did some crazy stuff happen.

When I originally picked my externship sites my hubby was in the marines and I picked towns I sites away from ft lauderdale cause I knew he be off in training and Id just get a place to live at my sites. Well obviously he got discharged so I decided in order to save some $$ I'd live in th VA provided housing....

That was until I got up here with my parents(they helped me get settled) and found out what the housing was like. It is a house of horrors-dirty, decrepit and falling apart. It was sooo gross. I know for free hosuing u can't really be picky but the deal breaker for me was that they had me sharing a room and there was only 1 bathroom for 6 girls!!! Are they insane??

With my phobia and stuff I just can't deal with all that so Saturday was spent running around looking for an apartment. We found a furnished efficiency for a good price but it was soooo stressful. Sunday was spent moving in, getting set up and buying supplies. Needless to say no workouts were accomplished either day.

Today was my first day. Lots of orientation stuff and I saw 1 patient on my own and observed 5 with a resident.

It gets dark so early here-I was heading home at 1700 planning to go for a run but it was already dark by the tine I got home so I'll have to get up early to run I guess...

Omg I'm sooooo exhausted I'm going to sleep even though it's really early!!

I joined the local YMCA yesterday..wow! My folks and hubby were very concerned with the idea of me running in the wee hours of the morn or at night after clinic and only running on the weekends just doesn't work for me so I figured I'd use the y for running.

Well it is the coolest gym I've ever seen-indoor/outdoor track, indooer lap pool, really cool classes, video game/ virtual reality area for kids, basketball court, racket ball, 2 cardio theatres, lots of free weights and machines AND the piece de resistance-a climbing gym...be still my beating heart!!!

And all this for $20 a month...being a government employee(temporarily) sure has some perks! Last nigh I ran 4 miles and then did a yoga class which I loved. One lady asked me if i had done yoga before cause I was so good-woo!

I can totally see myself spending lots and lots of time here-does anyone else get that whole time stops when u go in a gym? All of a sudden u realize you've been there for like 2 hours?! Tonight I'm thinking I'm going to go for another run and do this weight lifting class!
